For Over 60 Years
George’s Sporting Goods has been a trusted name in the Pine Belt since its founding in 1959 by George Harrison and Jack and Dorothy Purvis in downtown Ellisville. In 1978, they expanded with a small store in Laurel, and the following year, Jack and Dorothy’s son, Jay, joined as a partner.
After a fire in August 1986 destroyed the Ellisville location, the business permanently relocated to Laurel. Following another fire in 1999, the store was rebuilt in 2000 at its current location. Today, George’s Sporting Goods continues to serve the Pine Belt and surrounding areas, with Jay Purvis proudly leading the family-owned business.
